| Shabir for sustained campaign for land resources conservation | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEB 26: A massive awareness campaign should be launched in the state to educate the people about the importance of conserving land resources. This was stated by Minister of State for Forests and CA&PD, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan during the one-day seminar on "Land resources conservation" here today. Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged the need for conserving land resources which, he said is imperative for survival of mankind in the universe. The seminar was organised by Mumbai based NGO, Yousuf Meherally Centre (YMC) in association with J&K State Land Use Board. Joint Secretary, YMC, Mumbai, Mr. Harsh Shah, renowned journalist, Mr. Balraj Puri and Joint Director SLUB, Mr. K. Sameyal were present . Mr Shah gave a detail account of the activities of YMC in J&K and said that the organization would organize such seminars in other rural areas of the State for the general awareness of ruralties. He said the organization has formed 15 SHGs in the village Dhoke, Chak, Khanpur, Kamini of Nagrota area. He said more than 200 women of the area have been organized under the SHG programme. He said YMC has taken up Micro insurance project with LIC to cover the rural poor masses. More than 700 poor masses have been covered under this scheme mostly the rural women, he added. He said YMC is also running a vocational centre for dress making at Nagrota in which 25 women are getting training. Besides the organization is organizing various awareness programme in collaboration with various State Government Departments for the benefit of rural people.
