| NC puts blame on PDP, demands apology in public | | Facebook, SMS controversy | |

JAMMU, Feb 26: The confrontation between the two arch political rivals PDP and ruling National Conference today took a new twist with a fresh controversy, this time involving the three leaders of the Abdullah family and some ‘objectionable’ comments against their names on Cyber Space.

It now appears that allegations and counter-allegations between two mainstream parties on the issue of stone pelting has now taken a backstage and recourse through the cyber space. The National Conference today alleged that PDP has posted three generation of Abdullah family as ‘3 Idiots’ on social networking site ‘Facebook’ and circulated it through SMS . Offended and infuriated over the act, NC leaders described PDP’s mindset as “corrupt” and “ailing”.
While the NC has demanded an “apology” from the opposition party, Mehbooba Mufti, PDP president ridiculed the charges of NC saying the ruling party is raking up “irrelevant issues” to divert attention of the people from its failure.
“We demand an apology from the PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti for depicting three generations of the Abdullah family as ‘3 Idiots’ on social networking site Facebook and circulating an SMS,” Abdul Rahim Rather, senior NC leader and Finance Minister told reporters at Sher-e-Kashmir party headquarters here today.
In a hurriedly called press conference, the NC ministers and legislators slammed the PDP for what they termed as “stooping so low in politics, while seeking to settle scores with the ruling party.” Three generations of the Abdullahs- late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Union minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-have been depicted like the stars of Aamir Khan’s recent super-hit film ‘3 Idiots’.
What has infuriated the NC leadership further is that an SMS is doing the rounds, informing people about the post. They alleged SMS has been sent from the cellphone of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. The SMS read: “Someone posted three idiots on Facebook. Three Abdullahs! Such hatred and anger that could consume everyone.”
“ This is bound to have a reaction ……..PDP leaders should tender an apology to save the situation from taking an ugly turn, primarily for posting this kind of material on Facebook and then for circulating the SMS. This can cause trouble in the entire state,” Rather maintained.
“Her (Mehbooba’s) utterances may put entire state on fire…….”, Rather warned adding “Who would be responsible if the situation goes out of control? She has used unparliamentary and abusive language against the Abdullah family without applying her mind and it has hurt the sentiments of NC workers who have already come on roads.”
“Such acts reflect her ailing mind and ailing view. They are frustrated since Omar took over a Chief Minister of the State. They have nothing to say. Due to their frustration, they have resorted to such cheap politics,” he further alleged.
Rather, who has worked with all the three generations of the Abdullahs, strongly condemned portraying Abdullah family on Facebook as ‘3 Idiots’ and questioned, “Why they left the Legislative Assembly when we allowed them for discussion over human rights violation? The way she left the House only reflected her childish behaviour,” he said.
He threatened to take legal action against the PDP president if she does not tender apology in public. “All legal options including defamation against the PDP president are open for us. If the PDP has right thinking persons in its leadership they should come forward and tender an apology for tarnishing the image of Abdullah family,” Rather said, adding “If they don’t tender apology it would have dangerous repercussions.”
“It does not suit to a woman, who is craving to become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, to indulge in such activities,” the NC leader advised. |
