| Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebrated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, February 27: An impressive religious procession of followers of Prophet Mohammad was taken today from Sarwal that concluded at Janipur. The occasion being Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birth day of Prophet Mohammad was cebrated with great fervour and gaiety as hundreds of Muslims of Jammu joined the procession that passed through the area to culminate at the religious place at Janipur. The procession was organised by the Sufi saint Peer Mohammad Farooq Chisty Gadi Nasheen of Zyarat of Zerhama in Kupwara north Kashmir. The programme began with the recitation of Holy Quran by Qari Mohammad Akram On the occasion, children from different Islamic seminaries also participated in Qirat Naat and speech competition. Speaking on the occasion, president Hindu Muslim Ekta, Kanpur, Swami Shanker Acharya highlighted the various facets of the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammad. He rejected the allegations that Islam is linked with terrorism adding that this religion stands for peace. Acharya said the British while leaving India sowed seeds of of divison and attempted to poison the minds of young brains by writing incorrect history so that there is no unity amongst Muslims and Hindus. In his address, Maulana Syed Abdullah Muhammad Alhasni threw light on the different aspects of the personality of Prophet with reference to the various incidents which took place during his life. He impressed upon the Muslims to be an ideal for others as their character reflects upon Islam.
An elaborate arrangement was made by the administration for the procession that was greeted by Hindu and Sikh brethren enroute. “This is an annual event that is held in connection wirth the celebration of birth day of Prophet Mohammad in which everybody participates irrespective caste or creed,” said an enthusiast follower Akram adding, “I have been a regular participant of this function that brings communal harmony among all people of all religions”.
