Jammu Feb 27: Jammu and Kashmir’s Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather complimented Cultural Academy and Athwaas for projecting and promoting the age old traditions of the state.
“I am impressed to see the kind of programmes academy and institutions affiliated with it are doing for promotion of culture,” Rather said.
He was addressing a gathering of displaced artistes and Kashmiri natives who had assembled at Abhinav Theatre on Saturday. Former Chief Secretary and Member State Legislative Council, Vijay Bakaya also complimented the State Cultural Academy for extending its help to cultural forums like Athwaas
“Recognition of art is a sensible thing and institutions like Cultural Academy are doing that in a much better manner,” Bakaya said. Secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that it was really great that Kashmiri programmes were receiving good audience in a place where the native language was not Kashmiri. “The jam packed Abhinav Theatre shows peoples love for Kashmir,” Zaffar said. Cultural Academy and Association of Displaced Artists (Athwaas) organised a marathon musical evening at Abhinav theatre on Saturday. Besides entertaining audience the platform was used for felicitation of some renowned artists of the state also.
Those who were felicitated today included Brij Kishori, Tariq Javed, C. L. Koul, Ayash Arif, Vijay Malla and Yash Sharma. The latter was given lifetime achievement award. Before honouring the artistes Kusum Dhar read citations, which were followed by key addresses by Chief Guest, Abdul Rahim Rather, Guest of Honour, Vijay Bakaya and Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas. The felicitation function was jointly organised by Association of Displaced Artists and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The programme, continued for about two hours, began with Saraswati Vandana and was followed by a musical evening wherein singers of repute like Deepali Wattal, Vijay Malla and Gulzar Ganai mesmerized audience with their melodious voice.
Earlier in his welcome address Bihari Kak dwelt on the working of his organisation. He said that without the support of Cultural Academy his organisation Athwaas would not have been able to do what it did today. “We owe it to Cultural Academy. For without their support Athwaas wouldn’t have been able to attain its goals,” Kak said. One of the prominent highlights of the programme was that the Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, announced a donation of Rs 3 lakh to Athwaas while Vijay Bakaya in his capacity as MLC announced Rs 5 lakh to Athwaas as donation. The programme proceedings were conducted by Ravinder Koul while Ravi Kachroo presented the vote of thanks.
