2/27/2010 11:14:00 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Chenani, Feb 27: Expressing concern over the mounting problems of the common people, president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today lashed out at the National Conference led coalition government, saying instead of concentrating on ground situation, the coalition is looking for one after another excuse to shift blames of its failures on the opposition.
"In its 14 months tenure, this regime has plunged the State into unprecedented crisis as anger among every section has been increasing against this dispensation", she said while addressing a public meeting at Chenani.. "This government has been functioning without policy, programmes, performance and leadership," she said and pointed out that achievements of this regime were confined only to press statements and photo secessions.
"Instead of fulfilling the promises which the ruling party had made with the people during the assembly elections, this government has been looking for excuses to hide its failures", she said and informed the gathering during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Central Government had sanctioned a whopping sum of Rs 24000 cr for the development of State under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan. "This is unfortunate that this regime has miserable failed to even utilize that amount because one and only consideration of this regime is to divert attention of the people towards irrelevant issues".
"It was all due to the visionary policies of PDP led coalition regime that Rs 24000 crores were sanctioned for the State but the present dispensation has failed to properly utilized that amount", she regretted and added that the NC led regime even failed to implement some developmental projects which were sanctioned by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Mehbooba Mufti said that PDP-Congress regime had maintained a balance between development and political process. "Not only the development activities were accelerated during PDP regime but the peace and reconciliatory process was also initiated for restoring lasting peace in this region", she said and reminded the gathering that the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and present Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh have endorsed, as well as appreciated, the pro-peace policies of the PDP led regime.
"Neither this regime can carry forward the reconciliatory process nor the developmental activities initiated by the previous PDP-Congress coaliton", she observed and regretted that situation has been sliding back to pre-2002 situation due to wrong policies of this dispensation. `
PDP chief said that it was really a matter of concern that the coalition regime has been repeating the same blunders which were committed by the NC government from 1996 to 2002. "The present government led by Omar Abdullah has not learn any lesson from the blunders committed previous NC regimes in the State", she regretted and added that failure of the ruling National Conference to honour mandate of the people has increasing disillusionment among the masses.
Party general secretary Balbir Singh, A K Sawhney, Murtaza Khan, MLC, Vijay Dogra, Sukhdev Sharma, Partap Sharma, Sansar Chand, Dalbir Singh, Mohammed Amin, Kuldeep Singh and others also spoke on the occasion.
