| Inclusion of Gojri in 8th schedule demanded | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 28: The J&K Gujjar Bakkerwal Conference has demanded the inclusion of Gojri language in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution. The demand was made by the conference members in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of their president, Haji Mohammad Yakoob.They said Gojri's inclusion in the eighth schedule was must for the development of the language.They also demanded political reservation for Gujjars and Bakkerwals by reserving some constituencies for them. An amendment in this regard be made in section 49 of the J&K Constitution, they demanded. Addressing the meeting, Yakoob also called upon the government to take steps for the rehabilitation of nomadic Gujjars and Bakkerwals on state land.The conference general secretary Ghulam Rasool Asghar said the state and the central governments had failed to take steps for the proper rehabilitation of Gujjars and Bakkerwals.Even as a large amount of money was being spent for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants at Nagrota and other places in Jammu, very little had been done for the nomadic Gujjars and Bakkerwals, he added. The meeting was also attended by Chirag Din, Haji Said Ali, Haji Abdul latief, Akhtar Hussain and Mohammad Iqbal.
