| Govt committed to uplift weaker sections: Tara Chand | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 28: State government is determined to uplift the weaker sections of the society adding that its endeavour is to ensure equitable development in all the three regions of J&K. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand while addressing a public gathering at Kharah in Akhnoor tehsil, 80 kilometers away from here today. He said that the government has launched various developmental programmes to provide road connectivity, drinking water, education, power supply, medicare in every nook and corner of the state adding that numerous welfare schemes are under implementation for socio-economic development of the weaker sections of the society especially in a remote and border areas of the State. Deputy Chief Minister said that many projects have been completed and several are near completion and it is being ensured that funds provided by the centre for these projects are being utilized properly. He said that significant steps have been taken to bring accountability, transparency and accessibility in the administration. The government is aware of the problems confronting the people and these are being mitigated in a phased manner, he added. Referring to the developments registered in Khour assembly segment, Deputy Chief Minister said that for the improvement of road connectivity in his constituency, a comprehensive project of Rs 19.73 crore has been formulated and submitted to Government of India for approval. Under the project besides construction of culverts, causeways, small bridges over nallahs, the funds would also be spent for construction of lanes, drains and link roads, Tara Chand added. He said that for the improvement of power supply, the construction of grid station, Kaleeth and other six receiving stations is in progress in the constituency. Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister along with a team of officers visited Datyal and Bakur and inspected the flood protection works being executed on the banks of river Chenab there. Tara Chand directed the Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Jammu to speed up the pace of work on the construction of flood protection bunds and revetments at Datyal and get the works completed at the earliest so that the land is protected from any further damage.
