Aijaz Ahmed Jan of National conference is the youngest MLA in eleventh assembly making a debut at the age of 31. He defeated his Congress rival Choudhary Bashir Ahmed Naz by a margin of around 10,000 votes. Naz had to assembly from Poonch constituency in 1996 on NC ticket and he retained the seat in 2002 elections also. After Jan senior's death in 2006, Aijaz was given party ticket to contest by-election in December same year but he lost to Jahangir Mir of Congress. ET correspondent had an interaction with MLA, here are some of the excerpts.
ET: How you came into politics?
Jan: Well, It is being inherited in me by my family as my father Gulam Moham-mad Jan was member of legislative assembly in 1996 and 2002.
He was my inspiring force which led me to join the politics.

ET: You are the youngest legislator in the eleventh assembly, Comment?
Jan: Yes, I make a debut at the age of 31 and am proud of being the youngest legislator in the eleventh assembly. Our leader Omar Abdullah is also the youngest chief minister of the state and under his dynamic leadership the state will enter into a era of progress and development.
ET: Will this coalition government complete its full term?
Jan: I have no doubt that the NC -Congress coalition government will complete its full term and those who are raising fingures on the coalition are living in a fool's paradise.
Coalition government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah is doing yeoman's job and is committed to give equitable development to all the reasons of the state.
ET: Whom you defeated in the assembly election from Poonch constituency?
Jan: I defeated the Congress candidate Choudhary Bashir Ahmed Naz by the margin of 9933. The total votes polled were 71415, out of which I received 28297. The credit of my victory goes to the people of the Poonch constituency and the development works taken by my late father GM Jan.
ET: Any message you want to convey?
Jan: My message to the people is to be with us as we will do every thing possible to solve your problems and will redress all your grievances. Poonch will be developed as a model city where many development works have been taken by the coalition government. Road connectivity, better health care, electricity, water supply is on the priority and will be taken care off.
