| Dogri play ‘Mahabhoj’ being staged at Jabalpur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | OCT 11 Natrang’s mega theatre performance ‘Mahabhoj’ (Dogri) directed by Balwant Thakur has been selected for 13th National theatre festival being held in Jabalpur (M.P.) A twenty-member group left for Jabalpur where they will present the play on October 13 at Tarang Auditorium. Participation of Natrang will create a history for Dogri and Dogras as Dogri is going to be the first non-Hindi language, which is being featured in the festival for the first time in thirteen years. Earlier to this Jabalpur National Theater festival has been featuring only Hindi play. Only this year the organizers decided to include one non-Hindi play and they have selected Dogri. According to press release before leaving for Jabalpur the director of Natrang while sharing this biggest ever success of Dogri said that Natrang team have been dreaming for such a historic occasion to come. Dogri has become the first regional language to achieve this distinction. The Dogri play Mahabhoj has been adapted by Prof. Ram Nath Shastri from the famous Hindi novel of the same name written by Mannu Bhandari. The story of the play revolves around the agricultural labourers of ‘Saroha’ who bear the brunt of the wrath of their landlord for raising voice against his atrocities. In a gruesome act of arson, their settlements are torched and nine innocent lives are lost.
