| Killed in Kabul, cremated in Jammu | | Tearful adieu to Bhola Ram | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 28: Draped in tricolour, when the body of electrical engineer Bhola Ram, killed Friday last in a blast in Kabul, was consigned to flames at the Shastri Nagar cremation ground here, mourners bid him a tearful adieu. The body was flown to Jammu in SpiceJet Aircraft from New Delhi in the morning. From the airport, it was taken to his residence at Trikuta Nagar. It was brought to the Shastri Nagar cremation ground at about 1 pm and cremated with full honours. Guard of Honour was also given by JKP in his honour. Tears rolled down the cheeks of the shattered family members and relatives when the pyre was put to flames. Apart from Raman Bhalla, a minister in the state cabinet, the funeral was attended by several locals and employees of Power Grid Corporation of India, including power grid's director (personnel) V M Koul. Bhola Ram, a deputy general manager of the power grid corporation, was posted at Kabul in Afghanistan for the laying of 220 KV S/C Phul Kumari-Kabul Transmiision line and construction of 220 KV sub-station at Kabul under the Afghanistan Re-structuring Programme. The project had been completed and he was in the process of handing over the responsibilities to Afghans for which they were being trained.He was instrumental in bringing electricity to Kabul from Uzbekistan. He was among the 17 people, including nine Indians, who were killed in the blast.He is survived by his wife Sarla Gupta, daughter Sonia Gupta and son Viren S Ram.
