| Thrashad by school principal, student hangs himself to death | | | Jammu, October 11 : In a shocking incident, a ninth class student, Jitendra Singh, S/O Gurbachan Singh of Harminder Public school in Nanak Nagar committed suicide after he was beaten by his school principal in front of the fellow students for failing to deposit his monthly tuition fee in time. Amandeep Singh, brother of Jitendra Singh was also roughed up by the Principal and received bruised injuries on his arms and back. After the incident came to light, the residents of the area first protested outside the Govt hospital, Gandhi Nagar and later blocked the National highway outside the Presentation Convent school demanding immediate action against the school authorities. “School principal is a criminal, he don’t deserve to be a teacher in first place, he is a blot on the face of the teaching community”agitated residents shouted while they blocked traffic on the national highway. Senior police and district administration authorities rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators but the drama continued for more than one hour and the blockade was lifted only after local Congress MLA Raman Bhalla assured strict action against the culprit and apprised state Education Minister and Congress President Peerzada Mohd Sayeed about the whole episode.
While offering his condolences to Gurbachan Singh, father of Jitendra Singh,Raman Bhalla said as their public representative it is his moral responsibility to ensure speedy trail in the case to bring the culprit to the book. Later,Amandeep Singh, brother of Jitendra Singh, told reporters in Gandhi Nagar hospital that the school principal thrashed them with stick and hurled abuses at them asking them to deposit their pending four month fee. “When we tried to convince him that we will deposit our fee on Thursday and informed our father, working as a driver in a govt department, on telephone about the incident, school Principal did not bother. Instead of listening us he started beating me and my brother and directed us to move out of the school,Amandeep Singh recalled with pain in his eyes. "He didn’t allow us to sit in our exam ". After some time, when I returned to school and requested my class teacher to allow me to appear in my exam,she intervened and sought permission from the principal. He said, Jitendra didnot return to school and said he will remain at home.He was disturbed and felt humiliated about the incident in the morning,he told reporters. “On my return I found that the door of the room was locked and when I knocked the door there was no response from inside. My mother was not present in the house at that time. He said when he raised an alarm and others in the neighbourhood arrived they forced their entry inside the room by breaking upon the door; they found Jitendra Singh was hanging from the ceiling of the fan. “We immediately rushed him to the hospital but he breathed his last on way to the hospital, one of the neighbours who accompanied both the brothers to the hospital said. Meanwhile,State Education Minister Peerzada Mohd Sayeed has also ordered an inquiry into the incident and has directed director school education to submit a detailed report. "We will not spare him if found guilty", Peerzada Mohd Sayeed said.School Principal was absconding till the time of filing the report. SP South Tahir Bhat said a case has been registered for abetting suicide. |
