| EC clears Rs 14667 cr PMGSY road projects for J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 1: Minister for Roads & Buildings, G M Saroori, who was on three day tour to national capital, called on Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and discussed, among other things, the medicare facilities available in hilly and rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Giving details, Saroori said that a joint memorandum was earlier presented to the Union Minister for Health, Ghulam Nabi Azad for improving medicare facilities in rural and hilly areas by various legislators of these areas. Appreciating the initiatives taken by Ghulam Nabi Azad for improving the medicare facilities in the State, particularly, hilly and rural areas of district Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Baramulla and Reasi besides erstwhile district Doda, Saroori said that a bill is being introduced in the Parliament to establish Primary Health Centres and Sub Health Centres at every 3, 5 and 10 km distance to provide medicare facilities within the shortest possible distance to the people. Regarding shortage of doctors and para-medical staff in health institutions of the State, Saroori said that Union Health Minister has promised to look into this issue of vital importance for immediate redressal. Earlier, Saroori met Union Rural Development Minister, C.P.Joshi, Union Minister for Surface Transport and National Highways, Kamal Nath and discussed the road projects coming up under PMGSY and other sectors being executed in the State. During his meeting with Joshi, Saroori was informed that Empower Committee (EC) in the Ministry of Road Transport and National Highways has cleared all the proposed projects costing Rs. 14667 crore for the State and assured for clearance of other road projects, proposed under CRF soon. Saroori expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA, Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Kamal Nath for approving Rs 9346 crore for making Jammu-Srinagar National Highway a four lanning road, besides appreciating Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's efforts in getting the project approved. Saroori also called on Dr. Karan Singh and discussed State related developmental and political issues.
