| DFA Kathua, DFA Bandipore win inaugural ties | | 21st State Football Championship | | Early times report JAMMU, Mar 1: District Football Association (DFA) Kathua and DFA Bandipore won the inaugural matches in the 21st State Football Championship, organised by Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) at twin venues of GGM Science College and Mini Stadium, Parade, here today. In the inaugural match, played at GGM Science College, DFA Kathua blanked DFA Rajouri 7-0 to move into the next round. Vikram (2nd and 18th) and Varinder (11th and 20th) were most successful strikers with two goals each while Rakesh (11th), Navin (32nd) and Gagandeep (33rd) contributed a goal each in Kathua's one-side win. In another match, played at Mini Stadium, Parade, DFA Bandipore trounced Param FC 7-1. Towker-ul-Hak (8th and 45th) and Jamsheed (22nd and 52nd) contributed two goals each. Tahir (27th), Tariq (40th) and Javed (59th) added one goal each. From Param FC, Mubhasir reduced the margin netting the ball for only goal in the 49th minute. Other two scheduled matches ended in walkovers. While DFA Kulgam got walkover DFA Reasi, DFA Kupwara got walkover NGR Club. Today's matches were officiated by Muzaffar, Shafi, Hilal Ahmed, Saudhagar Mattoo, Rajiv, Sanjay, Vinay and Rony. Earlier, the fortnight long championship was declared open by the Minister for Sports, R S Chib, who was chief guest in the inaugural function held at GGM Science College grounds, here this afternoon. Minister interacted with the teams from different districts and departments of the state. He was accompanied by Director General Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), S A Laharwal. Prominent among others present were president JKFA, Zamil Thakur, general secretary, S A Hamid, treasurer and R K Kohli as Dr Nirmolak Singh, Surinder Singh Bunty and Mohal Lal.
