3/1/2010 11:47:20 PM
early times report
Srinagar, Mar 1: Taking a serious note of the attitude of two National Conference ministers, who have been exerting pressure on the police to harass the RTA activists, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that instead of appreciating such right thinking people this regime has been trying to make the Right to Information Act ineffective in the State.
In a statement issued here today, spokesman of PDP said that on the one hand State Government has not taken any serious step to properly implement RTA in the State while on the other those social activists who have been creating awareness among the people about this Act are harassed by the authorities with one or other way.
Spokesman pointed out that some professionals who were creating awareness among people about RTA in Branwar area of Char-e- Sharief assembly segment were attacked by some vested interests. He futher said that RTA activists were rescued by the timely action of the police but now politicians of the area especially two NC ministers have been exerting pressure on the cops to register case against those who were educating masses about RTA. It is really a matter of concern that Ministers of this government have been trying to make this Act non-functional in the State.
"We strongly condemned this attitude of the government especially of those two ministers two have been pressuring police to harass the RTA activists", spokesman said and pointed out that the coalition regime has done nothing to make RTA effective in Jammu and Kashmir. "Neither the RTA commission has make functional nor PIO have been appointed in most of the departments", the spokesman said and reiterated demand of the party to lower down fee for getting information.
