| Bhalla compliments Cultural Academy | | Dogri singers mesmerise audience | | Early Times report Jammu, March 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today provided soulful feast to the music lovers of Jammu through the Dogri Light Music Concert held at Abhinav Theatre on Monday evening. Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest on the occasion. He was accompanied by Secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas. Welcoming the audience, Additional Secretary Central Cultural Academy, Shamima Akhtar said that the Cultural Academy felt privileged by conducting such programmes. Formally beginning the musical evening, Anita Sharma, who sang the first song at the musical evening, said that it was because of Academy's support that artistes like her were getting chances to perform thereby earn name and fame.Anita beautifully sang the famous Dogri number. "Mera Chan Albella Kar Aaya"She was followed by budding singers Supriya and Lakshmi Sharma who sang Dogri favourite "Naro Nar Danuna Bajja" Others who performed during the music concert included Sham Sajan, Suraj Singh, Jeevan Sharma, Master Kartar Chand and Rita Rani among others. Speaking on the occasion Bhalla said that artistes could sometimes communicate what politicians wouldn't be able to say. "Artistes are the lifeblood of a society and communicate what politicians sometimes fail to convey," he said, adding, "the Cultural Academy was doing a fine job and the Dogri light music, which enthralled the audience of Jammu, attested this". Speaking on the sidelines of the musical evening, Secretary Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that his institution was for promotion of performing arts irrespective of language or ethnic barriers. "Academy's job is to project and promote performing arts and I am happy that we have been successful in this endeavour so far," Zafar said. Presenting the vote of thanks Additional Secretary Jammu, Savita Bakshi said that such programmes would continue to be held by the Academy so as to promote music culture in the state. The programme proceedings were conducted by Ravi Kant on behalf of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
