| Congress synonymous with secularism, says Soz | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 1: Terming Congress as a party that believes in the policy of strengthening the country keeping its secular fabric intact, PCC president and former union minister, Prof Saifudin Soz said it was committed to the welfare of all and upliftment of weaker sections, including SC, ST and OBC. Addressing a public rally at Shibay Chak in Hiranagar here, he said Congress, a party of all sections, religions and regions, was committed to the welfare of people.The meeting was organized by A G Kohli and other local leaders, ncluding Sher Ali Chechtri, Harbans Lal and Sat Pal Bhagat. The PCC president said Congress, which belonged to all, was seriously working for the upliftment of SC, ST, OBC and other weaker sections of the society. "The party provides equal opportunity to every Indian citizen irrespective of caste, colour and creed," he said and added all party men including senior leaders, ministers and legislators were soldiers of the party and had to serve the people. Soz said Congress had proved that it had the strength, vision and able leadership to take the nation to the new heights of progress and prosperity as its policies and programmes were aimed at the welfare of all sections of our pluralistic society. He assured the people that their local demands like construction of 10 Km long pucca road, upgradation of middle school, construction of tube well and regular supply of electricity would be taken up with the authorities concerned. On the occasion, Choudhary Mohammad Shafi along with his hundreds of supporters joined Congress and expressed their full faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Soz. Among others, who were present on the occasion included former PCC president Ghulam Rasool Kar, former deputy chief minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Dharam Pal Sharma, Mohammad Muzzafar Parray, ministers R S Chib, Raman Bhalla and Sham Lal Sharma, Hari Singh, Yash Pal Khajuria, Gurmukh Singh, Prem Sagar Aziz, Khem Lata Wakhloo, Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Subash Gupta, Parkash Sharma, Manjit Singhand Manohar Singh.
