Vikar: I was interested in joining politics right from the beginning as I was involved in number of works related to development of people particularly in my constituency. ET: How you keep an act of balance between your family and politics? Vikar: As far as balance is concerned, my family is giving me full support and am able to give sufficient time to politics. Many a times, it becomes difficult to give time to my family, but still manage. ET: How you see the functioning of coalition govt? Vikar: Only 15 months has passes, it is too early to access the functioning of the coalition govt, but so far, coalition govt is doing good job. Earlier also, under the leadership of Gulam Nabi Azad, congress led coalition govt did commendable job and till today, people are appreciating the work done by Azad Sahib. Omar is also keen in development of the state. ET: Any message, you went to convey? Vikar: Banihal will be developed as Model town as it has historical significance. It is situated or the main Jammu-Srinagar Nati-onal Highway. You will see the change in the coming months. Govt should speed up developmental works in my area including road connectivity, health care, electricity etc. Electoral Background of Banihal Town Banihal is one of the most hilly and difficult to manage constituencies in Jammu Province along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A clear bastion of national conference, the electoral battle in Banihal is clearly on the urban rural divide, like Doda, Banihal too does not have any large urban localities but a candidate belonging to village has always got preference over the one from the township. This constituency was represented, by Mohammad Akhter of National Conference in 1967 elections while as Hajira Begum of Congress won from here in 1972. Moulvi Abdul Rashid of National Conference won three successive terms from this Assembly segment in 1977, 1983 and 1987. Farooq Mir was elected from here in 1996 polls.
