| NC-Cong govt is anti-poor: Bajwa | | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 2: Charging the NC-Congress government in the state with adopting anti-poor policies, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today vowed to expose the coalition Government's alleged "unholy" nexus with few rich and influential people. Addressing a function organised here to felicitate PDP youth wing's newly appointed block presidents, party vice-president Trilok Singh Bajwa said NC-Congress regime was pursuing certain policies which were against the interests of common masses and poor farmers. Except fake promises, the coalition government had failed to do anything for the welfare of the people in the last 14 months, he added. He said as there was acute shortage of fertilisers in rural areas, the government was not bothered to make available their adequate quantity to farmers. The PDP leader alleged that the government had been serving the interests of only "few rich and influential" people. He regretted that instead of addressing aspirations of people, the government was furthering the interests of only influential sections. He claimed that due to the alleged wrong policies of the government, discontent among the masses was increasing with the passage of every day which could prove to be disastrous for the state. The government seemed to be having no control over the law enforcing agencies as law and order situation had worsened in the state, he added. "Situation is going back to the pre-2002 situation due to the wrong policies of the government," he alleged and added that the people had started comparing performance of the present coalition regime with that of Mufti Mohammad Syed when he was chief minister for three years. Bajwa said it was during the Mufti's regime that peace was restored on the borders from Kathua to Kargil and some revolutionary steps were taken for the betterment of border residents. "As chief minister, the Mufti had not only carved out a path of equitable development but also pursued reconciliation and peace process which led to restoration of peace in the state," he added. He asked the party workers to educate common masses about the achivements of the PDP-led regime in the state. Earlier, Sartaj Singh Ladda and Ajay Sharma were appointed block presidents of youth wing of the party for R S Pura and Bishnah respectively. Jagjit Singh Jaggi, Baldev Singh Pappa, Chatter Saini, Jagjit Singh Jagga and Jagir Singh also spoke on the occasion.
