Contractual lecturers demand regularization, salary

JAMMU, Mar 2: A large number of Contractual Lecturers/ Teaching Assistants working in different colleges of Jammu Province demonstrated on the fourth consecutive day in front of the office of Nodal Officer, GGM Science College demanding their regularization, enhancement of salary to Rs 21,600 w.e.f. August 2009 and release of pending salaries. President, Contr-actual Lecturers Assoc-iation, Prof. Suresh Sadotra criticised the government for maintaining silence into the matter. He said employees working in all the departments are being regularized but no action has been initiated with respect to college contractual lecturers. The State Government has framed a policy for regularising the contractual/ adhoc/ consolidated empl-oyees working in different departments and has done nothing with respect to contractual lecturers working in colleges inspite of repeated assurances from Chief Minister and Education Minister, he alleged. Prof. Krishen Singh senior leader of the association criticised Higher Education department for not giving salary to contractual college lecturers even after a lapse of eight months. The association urged the Education Minister to constitute a committee to ascertain the reasons for such delay . The association also requested Labour Commi-ssioner to initiate action against the guilty for non payment of salary to Contractual Lecturers/ Teaching Assi-stants working in Colleges. Others who spoke on the occasion include Suresh Sharma, Bindu Jamwal, Jyoti Sadotra, K.K Verma, Harpreet Kour, Rashpal Singh, Arun Sharma and Shahnawaz. Similar demonstrations held in GDC Poonch which was led by Nazam Bhatt, GDC(Boys) Udhampur by Sahil Khanna and Yogesh, GDC (women) by Amita, GDC Doda by Kulvinder and GDC Bhadarwah by Naseem.
