Rs. 70.45 crore released for free ration to drought hit families: Bhalla

Jammu, Mar 2: Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla has said that due to the drought in the year 2009 more than 50 per cent loss was suffered to Kharief crops in 18 districts of the State including the districts of Kathua and Samba.
Replying to a question by Subash Chande Gupta in Legislative Council today, the Minister said that the relief amount to be disbursed among the drought affected families, to the tune of Rs. 211.28 crore has been worked out as per CRF norms and projected before the Government of India.
He said as and when the amount is sanctioned same shall be disbursed among the affected families, including the drought affected families of Kathua and Samba districts.
The Minister said till then the State Government, with a view to provide immediate succor to the affected population, has released an amount of Rs. 70.45 crores and kept at the disposal of Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu for providing free rations at the rate of 35 kgs per affected family.
