| Over 1,000 kg poppy straw seized, four arrested | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 2: Over 1,000 kilograms of opium straw was seized by police from smugglers at three places across the region today. Police intercepted a truck (PB05/7265) at Lakhanpur in Kathua and recovered 800 kg poppy straw from it.One person was arrested in this connection. He was identified as Javed of Awantipura. In another incident, a truck driver and a conductor were arrested by police at Shafapani near Banihal with 205 kilograms of poppy straw. Concealed underneath battens, the consignment was packed in bags, police sources said.Sources said cops intercepted a truck (HR-37A/3572) at Shafapani in the afternoon and recovered 205 kg poppy straw.The truck was seized. Its driver and conductor were also arrested. Sources identified them as Amarjit Singh and Harish Singh, both residents of Taphi in Jullandhar, Punjab. Nawabad police arrested Mohammad Yousaf of Rajouri and recovered from his possession six kilograms of poppy straw and one kilogram of cannabis. A case under 8/15 of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPSA) was registered against all the accused at the concerned police stations.
