Mian Altaf versus Gurezi
3/3/2010 12:05:52 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 2: It was virtually National Conference versus National Conference in Legislative Assembly on second consecutive day today.
This time, the Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmed had to face an embarrassing situation when one of National Conference (NC) MLAs, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi charged him with "insulting" the House.
It all happened when Mian Altaf was replying to a question of his party MLA, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi Nazir asked on behalf of Haji Mohammad Ashraf.
Yesterday, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi had staged walk out from the House when his Bill seeking inclusion of 'Sheene' language in sixth schedule of State Constitution was turned down by the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar.
In his reply, Mian Altaf said that the creation of new territorial Forest Division for Wallur Sopore was being actively considered, as the Committee constituted for examining the requirements has already submitted its report. The Minister also furnished the details about the rates of various kinds of timber being provided by the Forest Department to the consumers.
Gurezi sought a "specific time" for creation of forest division for Wullar Sopore which was opposed by the Minister concerned.
"We cannot give a specific time for creation of forest division as it's a lengthy process," Mian Altaf said.
Soon after the Minister's reply, the NC MLA was on his feet and retorted, "Yeh Iss House Ke Toheen Hai…., Iss House Ka Kya Maksad Rah Jata Hai…(This is the insult of this August House. What is the objective of this House?)"
Interestingly, it was all going on in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Senior BJP MLA, Ashok Khajuria used the opportunity to mock at the episode and said, "Ab Aap Chod Hi Do.'
However, the Speaker intervened into the matter and shifted the focus by asking another legislator, Feroz Ahmad Khan to raise his question.
