21-member team to represent J&K in Veteran National TT

JAMMU, Mar 3:  A contingent of 21-members including three women shall represent Jammu and Kashmir in the 17th J&K Bank Veteran National Table Tennis Championships starting from March five at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here under the banner of J&K Table Tennis Association.
The five-day championship shall be declared open by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah at 11 am.
This was stated by patron of the organizing committee, Minister for Sports, RS Chib while addressing the newsmen here today.
Giving more information, Chib said that nearly 750 players and officials from different states of the country are expected to take part in the mega event. “Elaborate arrangements have been made for the comfortable stay of the visiting players and smooth conduct of the event,” he said.
Two halls within Indoor Complex of the MA Stadium have been renovated and given a new look as per the international specifications prescribed for the game of Table Tennis.
The organisers are also expecting two international players and Arjuna Awardees, Kamlesh Mehta and Manjit Dua for the national event.
It will be for the third time that J&K is going to host a national event.
The earlier two events held by the State were North Zone Table Tennis Championship in 1987 at Srinagar and Senior National Table Tennis Championship in Jammu.
Among others present were chairman of the organizing committee and Financial Commissioner, Sudhanshu Pandey, former Secretary, State Sports Council, Manoj Pant and organizing secretary of the championship, Ajay Sharma.
