| Withdraw troops from civilian areas : PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 3: Demanding withdrawal of Army and security forces from the civilian areas, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Javed Mustafa Mir today said that there was no role of security forces in the State because law and order situation has been improved. Speaking on the resolution moved by him in the Legislative Assembly, Mir said the Government on the one hand has been claiming that situation has been improved considerably while on the other hand security forces were still in the civilian areas. Demanding withdrawal of security forces and the Army from the civilian areas, Mir reminded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had himself told in the House last year that the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) would be revoked. "One year has been elapsed but nothing has been done in this regard", he said and reiterated that there was no role of the security forces in the present scenario. "When Government has been claiming that situation has been improved so there is no reason to keep security forces in civilian areas", he asked and narrated the incident of Nishat where security personnel have killed an innocent teenager who was playing cricket with his friends. "Stop human right violations to restore peace in the State", he said and admitted that security forces had a role to play when the situation was worst in the State. "Now the situation has been improved and there was no reason for their stay in the civilian areas", he said and strongly demanded that AFSPA should be revoked to restore confidence of the people especially in Kashmir Valley. Pointing towards secretary level talks held between Indian and Pakistan, Mir said that aspirations of Kashmiries should be taken into consideration while taking any decision on the solution of Kashmir problem.
