Govt targeting PDP to hide own failures: Mehbooba
3/3/2010 11:48:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 3:  Continuing her tirade and criticism against the NC led coalition government the opposition leader Mehbooba Mufti today alleged that in order to hide its own failures, the Chief Minister had lately started targeting PDP for every lapse in his speeches.Mehbooba also strongly advocated withdrawal of security forces contending the number of militants had reduced drastically over the years that warranted reduction in presence of forces .
“Yeh Har Cheez Ka Ilzam PDP Par Daltey Hain……Issey Hamey Apni Takat Ka Andaza Ho Raha Hai(the government is blaming PDP for all its wrongs ….this only suggests how powerful we are and that we have capacity to do so)”, Mehbooba said while talking to media after her party MLAs staged walkout from the Assembly over the reply given by CAPD minister Qamar Ali Akhoon. Alleging once gain that the coalition government was running in a dictatorial system, Mehbooba said NC is bent upon recreating the situation of 1987 in the state.
“They strangulated democracy in 1987 which forced youth to take up guns and are repeating the same tactics at present…….their undemocratic style of functioning is further pushing youth towards alienation”, the PDP leader said outside the House. They are certainly confused and are targeting PDP only to divert the attention of masses from their own failures, Mehbooba alleged adding that NC was facing leadership crisis.
Stronly advocating withdrawal of security forces, Mehbooba said they had no role in present situation particularly in civil areas of the state.”Security forces remained for 22 years and earlier when there were thousands of militants active they had a role to play but the number of militants has come down drastically and accordingly this should be followed by reduction in number of forces as well”, the PDP leader said contending the government is unable to justify the thick presence of forces when they are themselves claiming the situation in the state had improved to a great extent.
To a question Mehbooba Mufti said even as the foreign Secretary level talks between the India and Pakistan had disappointed the party because of the rigid postures of both sides on stated positions, there was a glimmer of hope from the statement of Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh that talks can be held for a meaningful purpose.”The Secretary level talks appeared to be symbolic gestures…..just for pictures  which certainly disappointed those who including PDP who are waiting for meaningful outcome” she asserted. The PDP leader said it was during their tenure they facilitated movement and participation of Hurriyat leaders in dialogue process whereas the present government was only doing reverse of such steps. The government,s he allged is not only restricting the movement of Hurriyat leaders but there are different signls coming from NC leadership tards their approach to involve Hurriyat in dialogue process.
