| Cop teases B.Ed student, evades arrest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 3: A Headconstable in wireless wing of police, who illegally drove his Bolero jeep as a taxi on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road, teased a B.Ed. student at Dalera in Poonch Tuesday evening. Though the girl, who travelled in his Bolero, resisted his advances, but when he did not desist from teasing her, she jumped out of the moving vehicle as a result of which she got her leg fractured. The Headconstable -- Kuldip Raj -- was evading arrest. He originally hailed from Ward No 16 in Poonch, but had settled in Rajouri for the past some time. At present, he was posted in Rajouri. He owned a Bolero jeep, which he had been using as a taxi unauthorisedly. The girl was doing B.Ed. in a private B.Ed. College in Jammu. Police sources said she and her friends boarded the Bolero in Jammu Tuesday morning for home in Poonch.As all her friends got down at Surankote, she was left all alone in the vehicle. Finding her alone, Kuldip allegedly started teasing her, the sources added. The girl resisted his advances, but when he allegedly tried to catch hold of her, she jumped out of the moving vehicle at Dalera as a result of which she got her leg fractured, besides sustaining injuries on other parts of her body. Kuldip later fled the spot. The girl was admitted to a local hospital. When the matter came to the notice of her parents, they reached the hospital and shifted her to the GMC Hospital in Jammu for advanced treatment.Her parents also lodged a report with police in this regard. Sources said a case under sections 376, 511 and 323 was registered against Kuldip at the Poonch police station. As he was plying Bolero jeep illegally on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch road without any permit, sumo taxi operators of Poonch went on flash strike against him today. They burnt used tyres in the middle of the road near Poonch Bus Stand and blocked it to vehicular traffic, demanding action against Kuldip and seizure of his Bolero. They, however, lifted their dharna following an assurance by police that action under law would be taken against the absconding cop. |
