| 46th Annual Conference of India Econometric society begins at JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 4: 46th Annual Conference of the Indian Econometric Society began here today at University of Jammu. The three-day conference was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik. Speaking on the occasion, Malik appreciated the efforts of the University of Jammu in increasing academic enrichment among the faculty, scholars and students by organizing literary activities on university campus. He emphasized the need for good data base for better planning process which would make it an effective tool for social and economic development of the various population sub sets in India. Prof CR Rao, a world renowned statistician and Padam Bhushan Awardee delivered the key note address. He highlighted the use of statistical and econometric techniques in the development and planning process and also spoke about the role of Prof VKRV Rao as a pioneer in Indian National Income Estimation. Prof Rao was facilitated on this occasion by TIES and former RBI Deputy Governor RD Barman, who provided a detailed account of the achievements and accomplishments of the statistician. In his address, Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof Varun Sahni highlighted the main features of the conference and the desirability of organizing such academic events on campus. Prof. Dipankor Coondo President (TIES) in his address highlighted certain methodological issues measuring the consumer price differential in the spatial context, as any price change in a huge and diverse country like India do not uniformly effect the various regions of the country.
