| 'Seminar on Global Warming and Climate Change' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 5: Department of Environment & Remote Sensing in collaboration with Environment Education Unit of MIER College of Education organized a seminar and Open House session on the theme 'Global Warming and Climate Change' at College campus here today. 12 students from the College of Education participated in a symposium organized on this occasion. After the symposium an open house session was held for the participants where in they cleared their queries regarding global warming. On the basis of the result given by jury members, Sheetal won the 1st prize, Ripu Bali bagged 2nd prize while Pooja stood 3rd in symposium. Students suggested different ways and means for controlling global warming including car pooling, recycling of waste, stop subsidy on the harmful pesticides, plant more trees, ban on polythene bags, use of renewable energy, conservation of forests. In the Open House session Anjali and Madhvi got prizes while Convener of Environment Education Unit MIER Monika Bajaj was also awarded for organising the event. Addressing the participants, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions Dr Arun K Gupta, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, sensitized the participants on their role to protect the environment and told that we all are responsible for depleting the environment. He also emphasized that the awareness programmes must also be organized in rural areas. In his address, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Department of Environment & Remote Sensing Ramesh Sharma spoke on the different causes and effects of Global warming on climate. On the occasion, Directorate of Environment Ecology and Remote Sensing distributed batches and notebooks to the students, who were also provided with different pictures, pamphlets, quotation boards, related to the theme 'Global Warming and Climate Change'. The programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants. Director MIER Group of Institutions Dr Renu Gupta, Joint Director MIER Dr Adit Gupta, Administrator Dr Surinder Kaur and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
