| Faculty of Science, JU organises lecture | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 5: Faculty of Science, University of Jammu, organised a Popular Science Lecture on "Statistics: The Science and Technology of Acquiring New Knowledge" here today. On the occasion, a lecture was delivered by renowned statistician, Prof C R Rao, Professor Emeritus of Statistics, Pennsylvania State University, USA, Fellow of Royal Society, Padma Vibhushan awardee, National Medal of Science Laureate, USA, and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee. Prof Rao in his lecture highlighted the usefulness and contribution of Statistics for development of Science and Technology. He advocated the importance of Statistics for acquiring new knowledge. The Lecture was presided by Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof Varun Sahni. Prof J P Singh, Head, Deptt of Statistics, welcomed the guest and highlighted the contributions made by Prof Rao in the field of Statistics for the welfare and development of the society. Prof A P Singh, Dean, Faculty of Science, conducted the interactive session. The lecture was attended among others by Chairman Jammu Kashmir Board of School Education Prof Deshbandhu and Prof Rajnikant, Coordinator, Popular Science Lecture Series, faculty members, officers, students of university and colleges besides officers from State Planning Department, NSSO and SKUAST.
