| Extension lecturer on journalism held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 5: Journalism is a noble profession and it is the duty of journalist to perform his duties efficiently and without fear. Unfortunately this noble profession and the fourth pillar of democracy had been damaged by some of so called journalists. These views were expressed by noted journalist Ved Bhasin. He was delivering an extension lecturer on journalism in the Prof. Gian Chand Jain Seminar Hall of Urdu Department here on Friday. The extension lecture was jointly organised by Department of Urdu and Academic Staff Colleges, University of Jammu. Prof. Anwar Pasha of JNU presided over the function, HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik was also shared the presidium. The lecture was attended by the participants of the three week refresher course in Modern Indian languages besides students, scholars, teachers and civil society members. Delivering the lecture, Bhasin traced the history of Journalism in India as well as state of Jammu and Kashmir. He informed that Urdu journalism had played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India. He said that as a journalist he had tried his best to provide factual information to the readers. He described Mulk Raj Saraf the first journalist of J and K State who started Ranbir in 1924. Bhasin also shared some of his experiences as a journalist with the audience and informed that he had witnessed many ups and downs in this profession. He further said that journalist should know more and more languages. In his presidential address, Prof. Anwar Pasha congratulated the HOD Urdu for constructing the Prof. Gian Chand Jain seminar hall and hailed the Ved Bhasin for his thought provoking lecture. Earlier HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik welcomed the audience and threw light on the life and work of Ved Bhasin. He also introduced Prof. Anwar Pasha to the audience. The programme was conducted by Prof. M.A Wani while Director Academic Staff Colleges Prof. I. V Mallan also spoke on the occasion.
