| DC members repulse ultras' attack | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 05: Displaying courage, village defence committee (VDC) members successfully repulsed an attack by militants near Thathri in Doda district in the wee hoyrs of Friday morning. Official sources said an unspecified number of militants fired at the house of VDC member Jan Mohammad with automatic weapons. The VDC member returned the fire.Sources said more VDC members joined Jan later and fired at the militants from different directions, forcing the militants to flee after about two-hour-long exchange of fire. There was no casualty on the part of VDC members, the sources added.VDCs were formed by the state police several years back in the militancy-affected areas to defend their respective villages from militants.These committees are provided arms and ammunition and other communication equipments by the police.
