| Stop construction work on Parnai Project: TSDF | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 6: Tehsil Surankote Development Front (TSDF) Surankote has showed resentment against the construction of Parnai Hydel Project at Draba-Bufliaz.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, Sarfraz Ahmed Qureshi, president and Mohammad Aslam Kohli, general secretary of the Front criticized the decision of the State Government for construction of Parnai Hydel Electric Project at Draba—Bufliaz.
They highlighted the plight of the people of Tehsil Surankote with special reference to the shortage and scarcity of water in the area. “The cultivation and farming of the people of this Tehsil is solely dependent on the stream/River of Surankote.
Besides this a number of water mills are functioning on the stream water of Surankote river but now the Government has unilaterally have decided to construct Parnai Hydel Project at Draba-Bufliaz without taking into confidence the local people which would snatch the livelihood of the people,” they alleged.
Kohli, while addressing the media, demanded that the construction of Parnai Hydel Project at Draba-Bufliaz be stopped forthwith because main source of income of the people of Tehsil Surankote is from agriculture and horticulture sectors which are dependent on the water of this river. He threatened the State Government to adopt extreme steps in case it fails to stop the construction work of the Parnai Project.
The leaders urged the Vice Chairman for Development of Kissan to immediately intervene in the matter and save the thousands of kanals of agriculture land from the threat of getting dry due to proposed construction of Parnai Project.
Other leaders who were present on the occasion included Abdul Majid, vice president, Haji Mohd Qureshi, chief organizer, Khurshee Hussain, press secretary and Alam Manhas Secretary.
