| Committee to be appointed to fix afresh rates of lands: FONL | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 6: Welcoming the government decision to revise the rates of Nazool and other government’s lands under occupation of lease holders and conferring ownership rights under the Roshni scheme, the Forum of Lease Holders/Occupants of Nazool/Government Lands (FONL) has demanded that the committee to be appointed by the government to fix afresh rates of lands at different places. Addressing a press conference, Inderjeet Khajuria, chairman of the FONL said that the committee to revaluate the land prices should also include the representatives of traders as well as of those who are going to be affective by the same. He demanded that the rates should be fixed at par with ones charged from the occupants of lands in respect of fifteen unauthorised colonies, which have been regularized by the JDA. In their case the rates have been charged between Rs 15000 and Rs 40000 per Kanal, depending up on the location of the lands. He observed that the acknowledgement by the government that in view of exorbitant rates fixed earlier by the rate fixation committee, the scheme has not produced the desired results and a very large number of government land holders have not availed of the scheme, vindicates their stand and persistent demand for rationalisation of rates and their fixation at the reasonable level. He further stressed upon the government that the authorized allotees of the Nazool and other government lands in the past through regular lease, after paying premium on the same fixed at that time and also regularly paying ground rent should not be treated at par with the land grabbers and unauthorized encroachers of the land, mostly after 1989. Thus a line of demarcation should be drawn between the authorized lease holders and occupants of government lands on one hand and the land grabbers and unauthorized occupants or the other hand. The case of formers should be considered leniently and rationally, in case of the latter charging of any rates will be justified. The forum has thanked the Chief Minister for appreciating their grouse and taking the decision to take fresh look on the rates already fixed and to appoint a committee for the same. It also expressed thanks to the Finance Minister A. R. Rather and the Adviser to the Chief Minister Devender Rana for pleading their case with Chief Minister. The FONL also thanked the Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla for raising the issue in the cabinet meeting, leading to the government decision to review their earlier decision and rates fixed.
