Jammu, Mar 6: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah today said his ministry will make all out efforts to reach farthest area of Ladakh region to provide the benefits of energy and electrification projects envisaged under various proposals for which separate funds have been earmarked by the Union government.
He exhorted J&K government and all the inistitutions to avail the benefits of solar energy offered by his ministry.
"Ladakh region will be one of the first areas in the country to benefit from Centre's allocation for renewable energy towards improving energy supply through the Rs 500 crore for small hydro, solar and micro power projects in that region, " Farooq said here this morning at a book release function organised by The Vijay Suri Foundation , J&K in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. "It is my advice to all to shift focus on usage of solar energy…….it is beneficial in many ways and reduces dependence on electricity….even the industrialists of the state need to consider the usage for their units", he said while elaborating on the details of the Department.
Releasing the two books, Farooq said Ladakh is a remote region but the efforts are on for its development. Regarding "Turtuk Unveiled," he said Turtuk, one of the remotest regions of Ladakh inhabited by tribal community of Baltis, has come a long way since 1971.
Saying that he has known Dr Kavita Suri from her days as a dynamic journalist working in conflict-hit Jammu and Kashmir for years, Farooq said she is one of those few persons in the print and electronic media to have visited this region repeatedly over a period of time.
He hoped "Turtuk Unveiled" would be an important research work keeping in view the fact that no such work has been undertaken on Turtuk in the past.
