Associations, unions extend support to EJAC's strike call
3/6/2010 11:20:05 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 6: To support the 3-day token strike call given by Employees Joint Action Committee from March 11 to 13, leaders of different associations have appealed all the state government employees to observe complete pen down and tool down strike.
However, the essential services including PHE, Power, Municipality and the staff, who are deputed on examination duty have been exempted in the larger interest of the public and the student community of the state.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, leaders of different associations and unions led by All J&K Agriculture Employees Association (JKAEA) president Uttam Chand Sharma and Chief Spokesperson Amrik Singh, J&K Central Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Union (JKCNGEEU) General Secretary Parshotam Sharma and Employees and Workers Action Forum (EWAF) president Mohd Aslam Chowdhary informed about the decision.
They alleged that government is adopting an adamant attitude and not conceding the genuine demands of the employees. The leaders demanded cut off date or fix any time frame for releasing the 6th pay commission arrears and uniform rate of HRA to the state employees. They questioned that when government has passed and giving uniform TA (Traveling Allowance) to the employees whether they are working in urban areas, rural areas or far flung areas why not the uniform HRA is being provided to remove the pay disparity.
The employees' union leaders said that they do not want strike but we are compelled to take this step because the government is not announcing fixed time frame for fulfilling the various demands.
Employees have a very high hope on that the government shall at least announce about 6th pay commission arrears, regularization policy of DRW/ Casual labor who were engaged after 1994 and uniform rate of HRA besides removal of pay anomalies of various cadres during the budget speech of Finance Minister, which he would be going to deliver on March 12., they said.
