| Trans-Himalayan Tourism Conference concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 6: The two-day 3rd National UGC-SAP Conference on "Trans-Himalayan Tourism: Reconciling Development and Conservation" organized by The Business School, University of Jammu concluded here today. The valedictory function was attended by faculty, research scholars and students of various institutes from across the country in addition to various members from the corporate world, government and other sections of the society. Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof RNK Bamezai, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, emphasized the need to create balance between development of the tourism sector and conservation of the ecosystem which is possible by adopting a holistic approach. He suggested to the policy makers and professionals not to be myopic but to exercise "Intergenerational Development" in the tourism sector. Director Tourism, Jammu S M Sahni, who was the special guest, in his address appreciated the efforts of the Department for contributing to the professionalizing tourism education in the state. He also mentioned about the benefits of organising such conferences to both academia and practitioners. Speaking on the occasion, Director, The Business School, Jammu University (JU) Prof Neelu Rohmetra, mentioned that tourism is primarily about human activity which embraces cultural, economic and social exchanges. She emphasized that tourism management relates to positioning tourism products while preserving the uniqueness. Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, (JU) and Coordinator SAP Prof Ashok Aima, Director IITTM Gwalior Prof Sandeep Kulshreshta and Director, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, JU, Prof Deepak Raj Gupta,also spoke on the occasion. Earlier in the day two technical sessions on the theme "Cultural Tourism" and "Contemporary Issues" were organised. Former Director General Tourism Saleem Beg and Prof Sandeep Kulshreshta chaired the two technical sessions. Around 20 papers were presented during the two technical sessions. Associate Professor, The Business School Dr Alka Sharma and Assistant Professor, The Business School, Anil Gupta were also present on the occasion.
