| CITU protests against economic policies | | | Early times report JAMMU, Mar 6: J& K State Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organised a protest rally against the destructive economic policies of the Government of India, here today. The rally started from Divisional Commissioner's office, Jammu and passed through Jain Bazar, Kachi Chowni, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Ragunath Bazar, Hari Market and Indira Chowk. Carrying flags, banners and placards and shouting slogans against the anti-people economic policies of GOI, they were protesting against price rise, non-implementation of labour laws, social security to workers of un-organized sector, stopping retrenchment of workers/employees on the pretext of global recession and stern action against hoarders and black-marketers. The demonstration was led among others by M.Y Tarigami, State President and court arrest at Indra Chowk, Jammu. Addressing the rally, Tarigami dealt in length the disastrous consequences of the destructive and neo-liberal economic policies by the Central Government implemented since early 90's. "The net result of these policies is accumulation of wealth in few hands thereby rendering vast section of the population hapless without any sustainable source of livelihood. The prices of the essential commodities like food items have risen disproportionately putting working class and lower income group to great hardships", Tarigami elaborated. He stressed for strict implementation of labour laws and good working conditions for the labourers of the state. He also re-iterated the demand for bringing legislation to ensure social security to the workers of unorganized sector who constitute about 90% of the working force of the country and living in deplorable and sub-human conditions.
