| Security beefed up in scared Srinagar | | | Early Times report Jammu, Mar 6: Security has been beefed up in entire Valley especially in Srinagar following intelligence reports suggesting grenade attacks in crowded places in the coming days.
According to informed sources, the police have information about possible grenade attacks by the militants in crowded places in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir. The sources said a group of more than 20 heavily armed militants have sneaked into Kashmir. “They are on a special mission and may create trouble in the coming days”, they said.
The police have directed the wayside vendors to stay away from places like Lal Chowk, Regal Chowk, Batmaloo, Budshah Chowk, Poloview, Lal Ded hospital area and Dalgate. “The militants take advantage of the crowd and manage escape after throwing the grenades”, the sources said.
Sources said the spy cameras had been installed at several places in Srinagar city to keep strict vigil on the people. “Old cameras have been set right”, they said.
The police, sources said, have also deployed a number of personnel in civvies in `sensitive areas’ in the summer capital. They have been directed to maintain strict vigil.
Meanwhile, a high level meeting was held in Badami Bagh cantonment. The director general of police, Kuldeep Khoda also participated. The meeting, reports said, discussed the over all security situation in the state and suggested several measures to fight militancy.
Immediately after the meeting ended, the police claimed arrest of two persons near Hazratbal. Reports said the police stopped an Alto at Batapora, Hazratbal this evening. The police claimed recovery of two hand grenades from the car. The car was seized and both the persons were taken into custody. They are being questioned.
