Maroof, a local truck driver brought Javid - now a young man of 28 - from Sabzi Mandi Srinagar to his heartbroken parents Ghulam Rasool Dar and Suraiya Wednesday.
Javid Ahmad Dar did not live with his parents at Sopore. Instead, his grand father brought him to Srinagar to ensure his good schooling. While playing near Zero Bridge, Srinagar on October 3, 1990, Javed went missing. .
Javed does not know, or is reluctant to say who abducted him and where he had been for the past twenty years. “I worked in Transport Nagar Delhi for ten years. I used to travel with drivers. I also became a driver”, he said.
Javed’s relatives searched for him in every camp and jail but all in vain. A JKLF militant told his relatives that he had seen Javeed serving tea to detainees in Papa II- a joint interrogation centre in Srinagar. However, the Papa II people never confirmed hi stay in the centre.
Later somebody told them Javeed had been adapted by a CRPF officer who lives outside the state. The police station Rajbagh had closed his file long ago.
Javeed has been thoroughly questioned by police during the past few days. The police seem satisfied about his identity and have reportedly ruled out DNA testing. But, according to family sources, he has willingly agreed to go for a DNA test.
