Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 6: Jammu, March 6, 2010:- Jammu Bachao Andolan (JBA) has expressed its serious concern over complete neglect of Jammu region in tourism sector and appealed the Prime Minister and the UPA Chair person to intervene personally and ensure justice to this region in matters of development.
In a statement issued here today, the JBA Convener, Wing Commander (retd.) G. L. Sharma pleaded that a mechanism should be evolved forthwith to earmark separate funds for all the three regions of the State by the Planning Commission and other departments of the Government of India so that each region and area of J&K gets its due share, He added that enough is enough and the time has now come to set things right keeping in view the aspirations of the people of Jammu region who have been neglected in all spheres of development and employment.
The JBA Convener said that detailed memorandums would be sent to Dr. Manmohan Singh and Mrs. Sonia Gandhi highlighting the glaring instances of grave injustice with the Jammu region especially in the tourism sector, although this region is second to none in natural beauty and vast tourism potential. He said it is most unfortunate that though out of 92 lakh tourists who visited the State last year, 82.35 lakh visited Jammu region, but when it came to allotment of resources this region has once' again been given raw deal.
The JBA Convener demanded that a special package be immediately sanctioned by the Government of India for conservation, beautification and development of River Tawi and the lakes of Mansar, Sruinsar, Sanasar, Dalsar, nine virgin lakes of Rajouri-Poonch and other water bodies, implementation of Gondola projects at Patnitop-Sanasar, Shashera-Dhanidhar Fort Rajouri and Mubarak Mandi to Bahu Fort, besides creating infrastructure at all the tourist spots in Jammu region.
