| Women need equal share in real power: Farooq | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 6: At a time when the women across the globe are gearing up to celebrate their existence on Women's Day, The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and former Chief Minister of J&K Dr Farooq Abdullah today strongly favored the Reservation Bill for women in the country, stating that the women needed equal share in real power so that they get their due denied for a long time. "The Bill will pass and get through to ensure 33 reservation for women….it is their right and it is high time women get their share in real power", Dr Abdullah said here today while talking to media on the sidelines of a book release function. Stating that women have been neglected for a long time,the Union Minister said women infact needed 50 percent share in the power. " But that will happen gradually………. for now it is a good start", he observed. He was reacting to some political parties opposing the Women's Reservation Bill which will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha March 8. To a specific question on RJD leader Lalu Prasad and others opposing the Bill, Farooq declined to comment, saying that was their own view. It may be mentioned that Samajwadi Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) are opposing the bill, though JD-U leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Saturday came out in open support of the move. To a specific question about attacks on Indian interests in Afghanistan, he said, "India will continue its work in Afghanistan…..both the countries have age old friendly relations ….we need to cement those relations with good work". Commenting on possibility of Union government considering autonomy for Nagaland and the probability of having same thing granted for J&K, Dr Abdullah said," Our report is already lying with Centre….. Centre has to decide on it as Justice Saghir Ahmad has already submitted his report to them".
