| Govt rewards ex-ultras with jobs in police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Mar 6: Thirty six former ultras were today rewarded with jobs in police in recognition for their reportedly valuable contribution in anti-militancy operations across the valley. Soon after they had laid down arms some time back and joined the national mainstream, they were temporarily engaged in the state police as special police officers (SPOs). They were permanently absorbed in police as constables today in reward for their efforts in tackling militancy, police sources said. The appointment letters were handed over to them by Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khuda in a function here. He said the appointment of 36 militants-turned-SPOs in the state police was made on the basis of recommendations made by the concerned district police chiefs. Khuda said more SPOs would be appointed as constables in a phased manner. He said the performance of the jawans and officers of the force during the operations was being monitored and it was after thorough scrutiny that such appointments were made. Khuda said the police force was determined to fight militancy in the state in a more professional manner.
