| INDO-PAK Talks:APHC may play important role | | |
Srinagar,October 12 : The All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) plans to play a mediatory role so that Delhi and Islamabad were able to break the ice that had surfaced after the Mumbai blasts. An indication to this effect has been given by the APHC Chairman Mlvi Umar Farooq when he said that he planned to visit Islamabad a few days prior to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singhs visit to Pakistan. The Kashmir Mirwaiz who spent about a fortnight abroad has started harbouring an ambition for bringing India and Pakistan to the neogotiating table so that now the Kashmir centric talks were initiated. It is in this context he has said that if DrManmohan Singh flew to Islamabad anytime during November he (Mirwaiz) will be in Pakistan a few days in advance. This indicates that the APHC Chairman has one basic idea of visiting Islamabad ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh so that he was able to set the stage for a meaningful and purposeful summit meeting. Even when he was away in the United states Molvi Umar Farooq is said to have suggested to hsi trusted men in the APHC to help those who are engaged in back channel diplomacy.Accordingly a former APHC Chairman Prof AbdulGani Bhat, has been in Delhi for the last over eight days. APHC sources said that it has been Prof Bhats longest stay in te Union capital during the summer season. And Prof Bhat alongwith Molvi Abbas Ansari represented the APHC in the Iftihar party hosted by Pakistan High Commissioner in Delhi where also the two leaders exchanged ideas with diplomats and bureucracy. The APHC leadership is eager to sell its solution to Delhi and Islamabad which provides for joint control over the two states, demilitarisation. It also provides for representatives of people to hold all the state affairs except that of defence, foreign affairs and currency.Reports said that in case Molvi Umar Farooq was able to visit Pakistan ahead of Manmohan Singhs tour he would like to brief the establishment in Islamabad on the APHC solution for Kashmir. And if its solution went well with Islamabad it could figure during Parvez-Manmohan summit/ |
