| Nago's brother alleges cops stopped him from submitting FCI tender | | | Early times report JAMMU, Mar 7: Choudhary Shamsher Singh, a brother of Choud-hary Nagar Singh, today alleged that he was forcefully prevented by the policemen to submit tenders of Carriage Contract with Food Corporation of India (FCI), causing loss amounting to several lakhs to his family. Addressing a press conference here, Shamsher, who is vice-president of Cantonment Board, said as soon as he stepped in the FCI Regional Office at Bahu Plaza Friday last, a battery of police officials started thrashing him severely and lifted him from the spot and thrown in lock-up at Trikuta Nagar Police Station. "Friday was the last date to submit tenders for carriage contract for Jammu-Kargil and Jammu-Baramulla, and I had gone there for the same. As the official time for the close of tender application was 2 pm, I reached there at 1.30 pm but all of a sudden a large number of policemen surrounded him and starting beating me without any reason, due to which I couldn't submit the tender which resulted in the loss of lakhs of rupees to my family," he added. Shamsher said that he was severely thrashed and locked in the police station and released only after securing bail. "My I-card along with other documents was also snatched and thrown away by the policemen without any fault of mine," he said. "I just want to know that for what offence and under whose patronage I was severely thrashed by policemen and kept in lock-up," he asked. He apprised that even medical examination has confirmed that he was beaten.Shamsher urged the chief minister and the DGP to inquire into the matter from police officials as to why such a treatment was meted out to him in full public view and why his constitutional rights were violated.
