EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU/ AKHNOOR, Mar 6: Irony but true. Villagers of Jadh Bhagatan adjoining Akhnoor town are thirsty for the last eight months and despite doing pillar to post in getting restored water supply no body is paying heed to them. It is worth to imagine that in the area where three representatives including Member Parliament, deputy Chief Minister and Cabinet Minister hails people are dying of thirst.
Bishan Das and Gain Chand habitants of ill fated village Jadh Bhagatan while narrating the tale of travesty informed that Minister of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Minister for Health and Horticulture and Member Parliament (MP) besides Executive Engineer and SDM Akhnoor were appraised about the apathy, but nothing had been done so far.
"I don't believe announcements made by ministers and legislatures because in our area, we have three top leaders enjoying power at top positions still we are not getting drinking water for the last eight months then how come those people at far flung areas expect supplies of basic amenities including drinking water, electricity and road connectivity" said Sansar Chand a local said.
He added that old and school going hardly bath once or twice in a month. Women have to spend maximum time in fetching drinking water from a canal about four kilometers away. Life without water has become miserable, Sansar added.
Village is having about 150 houses and population of about 800 that too of downtrodden section of society, Raja Ram told. He alleged that government in Centre as well as in state is run by Congress which often claims that party is for poor and down trodden sections.
He said entire population is of Scheduled Caste and no body take pains about them. He alleged that at the time of elections leaders and ministers need poor and down trodden but after winning no care is taken of these ill fated people because nobody bothers about them.
"We have appraised concerned leaders and officers the drastic situation being faced by villagers now it is their prime duty to make efforts to provide drinking water to villagers with immmediate effect" villagers expressed unanimously.
They threatened that if any epidemic brakes out as people are drinking unhygienic water of nearby canal, the government and its administration should be held solely responsible.
