EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 7:At the national level it may well have taken a solemn pledge not to let familial patenting of its cadre, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming "Party with a Difference" has now taken this recourse in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ther ehave been a number of occasions when the party has targeted its arch rivals with much-hyped assertions saying "it is not controlled by a family or dynasty and that is what distinguishes it from most political outfits in the country."
However, quite in contrast to this assertion , wives and sons of the bigwigs in the party have joined the bandwagon throwing all norms and nomenclature to wind, all thanks to state BJP's latest trendsetting which apparently is on the lines of other political parties like Congress, National Conference (NC) or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whom it have been calling the party of "ancestral hierarchies" or "dynasty rule."
Sources informed that the party has roped in certain names like Anil Gupta, Chanderlekha Khajuria, Mamta Singh etc, on the plum positions in its new formation of state team giving uneasy churns to the deservers, besides inviting the public ire also about its new arrangement which is being seen as being done on the pattern of Congress, NC and PDP formula.
"The BJP had earlier among its agenda a strong point to hit the Opposition parties for pursuing family politics with Congress as the front runner and NC and PDP following the suit. But, now the BJP also roping in their kiths and kins into the cadre has definitely brought the ignominy to the party cadre," a senior party leader said seeking anonymity.
On the new incumbency headed by the "undeserving" chief in Shamsher Singh, the dice is apparently loaded in favour of the leftists in the party who are predicting doom for BJP in offing.
"The much-hyped slogans -"Party with a difference"-is mere an eye wash. Where it differs from Congress, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party where the highest office is treated as the birthright of members of a particular dynasty? The party has started pursuing same ideology with wives and sons are being accommodated on prized positions," the leader maintained.
He questioned, "If BJP is not a party controlled by a family or dynasty, how has been the son of former Union Minister and BJP MLA from Jammu West assembly segment appointed as state vice president ignoring the deserving ones. The party has quoted his competence and hard work for his elevation but it ignores that he had resigned from Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national executive committee when he was denied ticket for contesting Parliamentary election from Doda-Udhampur segment."
"It is pedigreed surname which plays its role while getting elevation in the party. I do not even belong to a political family and that is why, they ignored me," he resented.
"Though the party had aggressive and hardworking women who had played a crucial role during Amarnath land agitation and Assembly polls, yet they were ignored while framing the state executive body. Another glaring example of lineage could be gauged that Chanderlekha Khajuria and Mamta Singh, wives of former state presidents, Ashok Khajuria and Dr Nirmal Singh did find their names in the list of state executive committee," the leader maintained.
"Instead of a single family ruling, the party has virtually turned into a political home of three families," he charged.
Talking to Early Times, Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP state chief, however, rejected all such accusations and said, "The leaders have been appointed after assessing their hard work and contribution for party. Anil Gupta had never left the party and he was a dedicated worker of the party while Mamta Singh remained active in the party progamme."
"The party has never given preference to familial patenting of its cadre and only deserving workers are generally appointed on important positions," Manhas maintained.
