| Kingpin arrested, 21 fake degrees seized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 7: Busting an inter-state gang of fake degree and diploma sellers, police today arrested its kingpin from Thathi near Gharota, about 2 km short of the Akhnoor bridge. He was moving in the area in his Indica car (JK02AG-4417) when a tip-off led police to his arrest. Police sources said Neeraj Sapolia was in this illegal profession for the past some time. While other occupants of the car, most of whom hailed from Uttar Pradesh and other states, fled after seeing cops, Neeraj, a resident of Muthi, was arrested, the sources added. He allegedly duped gullible youth on the pretext of providing them fake degrees, diploma certificates and marks sheets at the cost of Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000. A hunt was on to nab his escaped accomplices. Sources said search of the car led cops to the recovery of 21 fake degrees, certificates of 10+2, diplomas and mark sheets. The seized degrees and other documents bore the names of VBS Purvanchal, University of Jounpur, Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peeth Varanasi, Punjab School of Education Board, High and Intermediate Education Board Uttar Pradesh, School Education Board, Punjab, and All India Intermediate Education Board, Delhi. His sustained interrogation was on. Police also hoped to lay hands on some people whom they were said to have sold fake degrees and diplomas. Sources said the chances of some of them having got government jobs on the basis of these fake documents was not ruled out
