| Police findings similar to ET Report that shop was put afire for insurance claim | | Vijaypur shop fire incident | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 8: As the Samba police today came out with their findings that the Chhamb Cloth House in the main Vijaypur market was set ablaze on February 25 last for the whopping Rs 70 lakh insurance claim, these matched word for word with the March 02 Early Times Report -- Circumstantial evidence suggests there was something rather "fishy".
The shop owner Krishan Lal Choudhary was today arrested by police and booked under sections 436, 435, 304, 109 and 193 (ii) of RPC, according to SSP, Samba, Raghubir Singh.
In the devastating fire, that had reduced the shop to ashes, Krishan's son-in-law Bhupinder Singh and the latter's cousin Pawan Kumar Choudhary were burnt alive. As their bodies were charred like coal, their identity was established on the basis of unburnt I-cards recovered from them.
A Scorpio (JK02E/8000), which was parked just near the shop shutter, was also burnt in the fire.
The SSP said Krishan had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Bhupinder to set the shop on fire for insurance claim.
As Krishan had taken a loan of Rs 50 lakh from the Vijaypur branch of Citizens' Cooperative Bank, the shop was insured with Bajaj Allianz for Rs 70 lakh, he added.
Bhupinder, who had a vast network of contacts in Jammu, was alleged to have helped his father-in-law to secure loan from the bank and then get the shop insured with Bajaj Allianz.
During his sustained interrogation, Krishan allegedly confessed to have sent Bhupinder to the shop on the February 25 night to set it on fire.
Bhupinder took his cousin Pawan along with him on the fateful night, but they hardly knew that it was the death that waited for them inside the shop.
They had entered the shop from its backside after opening its lock with a genuine key which was allegedly given to them by Krishan. It was suspected that a LPG cylinder lying in the shop was already leaking and when one of them had lit a matchstick or a lighter to see through the darkness, the LPG had caught fire, engulfing them and the shop with a lightning speed.
On the night of the incident, Bhupinder was home when Krishan had allegedly given him a number of missed calls on his cell phone as a reminder to do the job.
Krishan had earlier denied his role in the incident, expressing ignorance. He had got himself admitted to hospital, pretending heart ache.
Bhupinder, who was associated with a local daily English newspaper, had also worked with KC Plaza and Hot Billions as cashier. |
