| Mufti expresses concern over power, ration crises | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Mar 9: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has expressed concern at the huge deficiencies in public delivery system. Mufti was addressing a large number of people at Anantnag, who had called on him today to apprise him about the problems faced by the citizens. PDP leader was told that the power shortage has reached a crises point and most areas of the town remain in darkness most of the time. The villages, he was informed faced an even greater crises where people had formally revert to non-electric sources of light. Sharing the anxiety of the people, Mufti wondered about the reasons that have resulted in sharp deterioration in power and ration supplies over the past one year. He said the power resources to the state have considerably increased since 2006 with the commissioning of Baglihar Project in the state sector and Dulhasti by the NHPC. While the supply situation should have increased it has mysteriously worsened since the present government took office. Similarly, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was informed about the inability of the government to provide ration through Public Distribution System. He was informed that most of the ration stores were empty forcing the people to completely depend on open market which had resulted in sharp increase in food prices. He was told that certain areas were facing acute shortage of food grains, kerosene and sugar. Mufti said it was necessary that the government activated all its agencies and reach out to people to meet their daily requirements rather than wait for having to deal every issue through strong arm and deployment of force. He said it was painful for him to see that the projects launched by previous government had become a victim of deliberate neglect. On the one hand the government claimed to have received huge funds and on the other even the on going schemes were starved of finances.
