| Pensioners serve 20 days ultimatum | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 9: Condemning the State Gov-ernment for adopting dilly dallying tactics to resolve their issues, the state pensioners today served an ultimatum of 20 days to the State government for fulfilling their demands. A large number of pensioners under the banner of J&K Pensioners Association took out a protest rally at Rani Park here. Led by its Convenor, Govind Ram Sharma, the protesting pensioners accused the coalition government for compelling senior citizens to come out on roads to get their demands settled. The pensioners demanded revised arrears of pension with effect from January 2006 in one installment without further delay, additional quantum of pension in favour of State pensioners/family pensioners after attaining the age of 80 years, 85 years, 90 years, 95 years and 100 years at the rate of 20 per cent, 30 per cent, 40 per cent, 50 per cent and 100 percent respectively on the analogy of Centre Government pensioners, medical allowance be enhanced from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 or in the alternative reimbursement medical scheme as is applicable to the Central Government pensioners be sanctioned in favour of the State pensioners, 6 per cent DA arrears from January 1 to June 30 be released in favour of the state pensioners immediately, 5 per cent DA as was due from July, 2009 and sanctioned by the government recently be paid immediately instead of two installments to be paid in April and June 2010 and others. The Association served an ultimatum of 20 days to the State Government to resolve its issues failing which they would intensify their agitation. Others who addressed the gathering include Jagdish Dogra, N. D Sharma, Swarn Singh, Dessa Singh, O. P Gupta, K.L Basotra, KamaJ Bhardwaj, S.L Gandotra and Jagdish Raj Sharma.
